Muscat: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has emphasized the transformation of the Makran coast, known as the 'Lost Paradise,' into a future economic hub for Iran and the broader region. Speaking at the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat, Oman, Araghchi stated, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has placed 'maritime-oriented' policy at the forefront of its strategic development."

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi highlighted Iran's extensive coastline, stretching over 5,800 kilometers with 4,900 kilometers along the southern ocean. He stressed the necessity of developing a maritime-based economy, describing it as an "imperative" rather than a mere option. The Iranian government has formulated a comprehensive plan focusing on port development, maritime transportation, and establishing a regional supply chain.

The Makran coast, once overlooked, now holds significant potential for national development. The Iranian government has outlined four key objectives for this region: strengthening local economies, developing renewable energy infrastructure, completing transportation networks, and attracting investment. Araghchi emphasized the crucial role of maritime security, stating Iran's commitment to contributing to regional security efforts.

He also addressed the importance of regional cooperation, highlighting Iran's membership in the Indian Ocean Rim Association and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium. Araghchi warned against the interference of extra-regional powers in the region's affairs, advocating for decisions to be made by the countries within the region for the benefit of their peoples.
