New york: Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, criticized the European Troika’s actions regarding the return of Security Council sanctions against Iran. Speaking from New York, where he attended the 80th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, Araghchi provided detailed explanations in an online interview with the ‘Evening News 21’ of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi emphasized the significance of Iran’s participation in the UN General Assembly as a platform for diplomatic engagement and advancing bilateral relations. He highlighted the efforts made by the Iranian delegation in New York to explain and defend Iran’s positions, noting the powerful speech delivered by the Iranian President at the General Assembly.

Araghchi accused the United States and three European countries of exaggerating the snapback mechanism to extract concessions from Iran. He claimed that the Western media ha
d inflated the issue, creating an atmosphere of fear and tension. Araghchi stressed that while the potential reimposition of UN sanctions could harm Iran economically, the threat was exaggerated by the West to coerce Iran into concessions.

Acknowledging the intensive diplomatic efforts made by Iran with Russia, China, and other UN members, Araghchi disclosed that multiple letters were submitted to the UN Security Council, including a joint letter with Moscow and Beijing opposing the snapback action. He noted that Iran pursued extensive diplomacy with various countries to block the move.

Araghchi revealed that Iran had offered constructive proposals for a balanced solution, all of which were rejected by the Western side. He criticized the excessive demands of the West, which expected Iran to abandon its nuclear material in exchange for a temporary suspension of snapback. Araghchi emphasized the lack of consensus at the UN Security Council to support this measure.

r negotiations, seeking a just and balanced agreement. He declared that from Iran’s perspective, the snapback mechanism had not been activated and its consequences should not be recognized. He assured that Iran remains committed to the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and is open to building confidence, provided that proportional concessions are made and Iran’s right to enrichment is respected.
