Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has underscored the important role of regional organizations in countering US unilateralism, reaffirming Iran's commitment to continued cooperation with the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation. Araghchi made these remarks during a meeting on Friday evening with Sohail Mahmood, Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization, who is in Tehran to attend ceremonies honoring the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi emphasized the significance of regional organizations in challenging aggressive US unilateralism and stressed the importance of sustained collaboration and Iran's active participation in future meetings of the D-8 Organization. He expressed gratitude to Mahmood for attending the tribute ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution and appreciated the D-8 member states for condemning the US-Israeli war on Iran and voicing support for the country.

Mahmood, on his part, offered condolences over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as several Iranian officials and civilians, during the US-Israeli war that began on February 28. He also expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the Iranian government and people. The D-8 secretary-general briefed Araghchi on the organization's ongoing activities and upcoming meetings, urging Iran to maintain its active participation in future D-8 events.
