Damascus: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has declared Iran's unwavering support for the Syrian government and army as he embarked on a diplomatic visit to Damascus for discussions with senior Syrian officials. The announcement was made as Araghchi prepared to depart for Syria, emphasizing the Islamic Republic's steadfast alliance with its regional counterpart. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi addressed the media before his departure, stating that his visit aims to convey Iran's message of support to the Syrian government. He reiterated the Iranian government's firm backing of Syria, particularly its military forces, in their ongoing struggles. This diplomatic mission coincides with intensified conflict in Syria's northwest, where terrorist factions have launched a surprise offensive and seized control of parts of Aleppo. Araghchi further elaborated on the geopolitical situation, suggesting that the timing of the offensive-nearly simultaneous with the implementation of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon-was orchestrated by Israel to create instability in the region. He expressed confidence in the Syrian army's ability to overcome these adversarial forces, drawing parallels to past victories against similar groups. Following his visit to Syria, Araghchi is scheduled to travel to Turkiye as the next step in his regional diplomatic tour.
