Tehran: Iran's Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Hossein Simaei Sarraf, has emphasized the significance of the Arbaeen pilgrimage in fostering religious understanding and strengthening academic ties between Iran and Iraq. He highlighted the event as a continuation of the message of Ashura, offering an opportunity to deepen cultural dialogue and expand scientific cooperation between the two nations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Simaei Sarraf, speaking on Tuesday during the Arbaeen ceremonies in Karbala, Iraq, described the pilgrimage as a symbol of Imam Hussein's enduring legacy. He noted that the ideals of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, continue to inspire millions of pilgrims annually.

Simaei Sarraf commended the Iraqi people's hospitality towards visitors, particularly Iranian pilgrims, viewing it as a crucial social and spiritual asset that has reinforced the relationship between the neighboring countries. He urged that Arbaeen be perceived not just as a religious ritual but as an opportunity for students and young individuals to explore the historical, ethical, and intellectual facets of Imam Hussein's movement.

He further mentioned the significant scholarly contributions published in Persian since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which have enriched Ashura research. The minister also pointed out the increasing presence of Iraqi students at Iranian universities, asserting that academic exchanges foster international engagement, cultural dialogue, and closer bilateral relations.
