Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has reaffirmed Baku's support for Iran, saying Azerbaijan has once again demonstrated its solidarity with the Iranian people amid recent developments in the region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, President Aliyev made the remarks in a post on X, responding to comments by his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian about Azerbaijan and regional cooperation during wartime. President Aliyev wrote, 'Mr. President Masoud Pezeshkian, I thank you for the kind and sincere words you spoke about Azerbaijan. The peoples of Azerbaijan and Iran have always stood by each other's side in narrow and difficult days.'

He added, 'Against the backdrop of the recent events that have taken place in our region, Azerbaijan has once again demonstrated that it stands by its brother Iranian people.'

President Pezeshkian, speaking at a press conference, highlighted the role of neighboring countries in helping Iran during the war. He said Pakistan had been cooperating extensively, while Afghanistan and Turkmenistan had also provided positive cooperation. He also noted assistance from Russia and Iraq.

Regarding Azerbaijan, President Pezeshkian said that despite some political issues, dialogue and engagement between Tehran and Baku had continued. The Iranian president stressed that regional diplomacy had played an important role in reducing the impact of wartime restrictions and maintaining access to essential supplies and resources.
