Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has condemned threats by US President Donald Trump to bomb Iran's civilian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants, saying such a policy is 'unlawful and criminal.'

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei expressed his concerns on X, emphasizing that committing war crimes cannot be justified by citing superior orders. He criticized the US ruling establishment, stating that it aims to undermine international humanitarian law and ethical foundations to pursue its agenda for war.

Baqaei further elaborated that targeting civilian infrastructure is clearly unlawful, constituting reprisal and collective punishment, both explicitly prohibited under international and US domestic law, particularly under 18 U.S.C. § 2441 (the War Crimes Act). He highlighted that there is no statute of limitations for these crimes and emphasized the obligations under the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the Department of Defense Law of War Manual. These require service members to refuse unlawful orders, reinforcing Iran's stance against lawlessness.

The statement follows President Trump's renewed threats on Tuesday to target Iranian bridges and power plants, particularly those in and around Tehran, as a response to alleged attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
