BRICS to Play ‘Key Role’ in Shaping Global Future, Says Iran’s Envoy to Russia

Moscow: Iran's Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, has stated that the BRICS group of emerging economies will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the world. Speaking to reporters in Moscow, Jalali highlighted the growing influence of BRICS, attributing it to the current international power structure, which he described as slow and ineffective in addressing global issues.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Jalali emphasized de-dollarization as a significant focus on the BRICS agenda in the near future. He predicted that by 2030, the share of the US dollar in central bank reserves would decrease from 58% to approximately 35-40%. This shift is expected to alter the financial landscape significantly.

Jalali also pointed out that by 2030, BRICS countries are projected to constitute 48% of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). With economic indicators for the G7 nations on the decline, BRICS's economy is anticipated to make up over a third of the global GDP, with its exports accounting for about a quarter of global exports.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the New Development Bank (NDB) of BRICS is progressing towards becoming an alternative to the World Bank and Western development mechanisms, offering new opportunities for global financial development.

The ambassador noted that 2024 marks a turning point for BRICS as the bloc expands from five to ten members. In 2023, during the BRICS summit in South Africa, five new countries, including Iran, were invited to join, highlighting the bloc's growing influence and reach on the global stage.
