British Politicians Warn Against Unconditional Support for U.S. Amid Iran Tensions

London: British politicians have warned that Britain's special relationship with the United States, as it threatens to attack Iran, is 'putting us all at risk.' Zack Polanski, deputy leader of the Green Party and a London Assembly member, expressed concerns to The Middle East Eye, stating that it is 'deeply irresponsible for our international policy to always be tied to American interests.'

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Polanski emphasized the need for Britain to influence global conversations towards peace and justice, rather than aligning with a U.S. administration determined to escalate conflicts. Independent Member of Parliament Ayoub Khan echoed these sentiments, asserting that Britain, as a key U.S. ally, should work towards de-escalation and encourage restraint instead of allowing tensions to lead to another devastating conflict.

These warnings arise amidst U.S. President Donald Trump's attempts to garner support from Middle Eastern allies for his aggressive stance towards Iran. With airstrike threats looming, key Middle Eastern partners, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, have refused American warplanes access to their bases or airspace for potential attacks on Iran.

Analysts note that these refusals have complicated the Trump administration's efforts to pressure Tehran into negotiating a new deal on Washington's terms. Despite these challenges, the U.S. continues to rely significantly on its crucial ally, Britain.
