China Criticizes US Attack on Iranian Ship Near Strait of Hormuz, Calls for Restraint

Beijing: China has criticized a US attack on an Iranian-flagged container ship near the Strait of Hormuz and called on all sides to act responsibly and uphold a ceasefire agreement. "We are concerned about the use of force by the United States against relevant vessels," Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated.

According to Nam News Network, the comments came after the US Navy attacked and seized an Iranian cargo ship in the Arabian Sea on Sunday. The ship had attempted to bypass a US blockade of the nearby strait. This military escalation occurred shortly before a two-week ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday.

US President Donald Trump expressed readiness to resume negotiations in Islamabad this week. However, the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared on Monday that it had no plans to meet with the US. In light of these developments, China urged all parties to take advantage of the "window for peace" and emphasized the need to create conditions conducive to ending the war as soon as possible, according to Guo.
