Tehran: The spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (A.E.O.I.) has warned that Tehran prepared a list of potential responses in case the International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.)’s Board of Governors issues a resolution against the country. Speaking on the Special News Talk program on Sunday evening, Behrouz Kamalvandi said repeated resolutions and growing pressure against Iran are politically motivated.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Kamalvandi pointed out that the current composition of the U.N. Security Council does not inspire much hope for addressing the legal questions surrounding Iran’s commitments. He emphasized that Iran’s suspension of obligations was a reaction to non-compliance by other parties. ‘If they return to their commitments, we will do the same,’ Kamalvandi stated.
Kamalvandi further clarified that the passage of a resolution does not automatically trigger the snapback mechanism for sanctions, a process he described as political rather than legal. The spok
esperson noted that Iran had responded to previous resolutions by significantly increasing its nuclear activities, including a sevenfold increase in 60% enrichment output, activation of 20 cascades, and installation of advanced generation-13 machines.
This time, Kamalvandi revealed that Iran has prepared a comprehensive list of countermeasures, which includes both technical steps and changes in the nature of its cooperation with the I.A.E.A. The spokesperson’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions and the potential for further escalation in response to international actions.
