Developing Cooperation Between Yerevan and Tehran a Priority: Armenian PM

Yerevan: Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stressed the need for strengthening cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan, saying the main priority of his government is to develop relations with Iran in all areas. In a statement from Pashinyan's office on Saturday, he made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's new Ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pashinyan referred to the natural and common interests of the two countries and expressed hope that the term of the new Iranian envoy will be an opportunity to deepen bilateral relations and strengthen economic, trade, and regional cooperation. He also stated that Armenia-Iran relations have currently entered a stage of unprecedented dynamism, which will keep expanding in all areas.

For his part, Shirgholami appreciated the warm welcome he received in the Caucasian nation and conveyed the greetings of President Masoud Pezeshkian to the Armenian premier, emphasizing the historical bond between the two nations. He said the Islamic Republic respects the peace-oriented policy of Pashinyan, which, according to him, also helps contribute to the development and progress of the region.

The Armenian prime minister's office stated that the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues, including Tehran-Yerevan cooperation in different fields and the implementation of joint projects.
