Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty said Egypt is keen on sustaining the pace of interaction and coordination with the United States through the bilateral mechanisms in place, especially the strategic dialogue at the foreign ministers' level and the Joint Economic Commission. Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call on Tuesday with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken who congratulated him on his appointment as the top diplomat of Egypt, expressing hope that they would work closely together to bolster the US-Egypt partnership. During their phone conversation, Egypt's top diplomat reviewed bilateral relations and regional developments, especially the Gaza crisis and the situation in Sudan, according to foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid. Blinken commended Egypt's pivotal role in sponsoring ceasefire and prisoner-swap negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis and ensuring secure access to more humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip. H e also thanked Egypt for hosting a conference of Sudanese political and civil forces to address the ongoing crisis early this week, describing the first-of-its-kind event as a critical step towards a national consensus that will hopefully lead to a political solution to the Sudanese crisis. The two ministers agreed on the need to maintain their joint coordination and consultation over regional and other issues of mutual concern, including the situation in Libya, Red Sea security, and the crisis in Lebanon, Abu Zeid noted.
