Environmental Segment Of WUF Important For Facing Climate Change: Environment Min To MENA.


Cairo: Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad said the environmental segment of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) is very important for curbing impact of climate change on cities, pointing out that the Ministry of Environment participates in nine sessions tackling issues on climate change and cities.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister emphasized that all cities are affected by climate change, noting that 70% of world emissions originate from cities, buildings, and the transport sector. She highlighted the significance of showcasing Egypt’s experience in integrating climate change considerations with urban community development.

Fouad stressed the importance of strategic environmental impact studies that focus on the societal dimension during the planning of new urban cities. These studies advocate for the use of renewable energy and Eco-friendly transportation solutions. She also mentioned a significant project undertaken by Egypt, in collaboration with the Green Climate Fund, aimed at combat
ing sea level rise in seven governorates through nature-based solutions.

The sessions at WUF12 will underline the role of the Egyptian state in preparing a national integrated plan to adapt to the impact of climate change, the minister stated.
