EU Receives Significant Support from Trkiye for Citizen Evacuation from Tehran

Brussels: The EU has acknowledged substantial assistance from Trkiye in evacuating EU citizens from Iran amid rising tensions between Tel Aviv and Tehran, as stated by an EU official.

According to TRTworld.com, Christian Berger, director of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Crisis Response Centre, commended Trkiye's involvement in ensuring efficient land crossings and subsequent travel arrangements. "We have had great support from the Turkish authorities to make sure that people can cross easily and then get connecting flights from the eastern part of the country to the international airport," Berger shared with reporters in Brussels.

Berger further explained that the EU faces challenges on the ground in Iran due to the lack of an EU delegation in Tehran. The coordination efforts are currently being led by the rotating EU presidency, which is under Poland's leadership. "We are a little bit handicapped in Iran because we have no delegation in Tehran," he noted.
