Geneva: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has stated that the ongoing talks between Iran and the United States in Geneva are serious and have delved into specifics regarding the removal of sanctions and nuclear discussions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei spoke to IRNA's correspondent in Geneva, revealing that the Tehran-Washington talks commenced the previous day. He highlighted Iran's open-minded approach and the focus on two main subjects: the lifting of sanctions and nuclear issues.

Baqaei mentioned significant discussions have occurred between Iran's diplomatic leader and his Omani counterpart, as well as with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He emphasized that Iran's positions on the nuclear issue, sanctions removal, and the framework for any potential agreement have been clearly conveyed to the intermediary party.

He further noted that the American side had discussions with the Omani side and the IAEA Director General. Subsequently, Iran engaged in talks with Oman's diplomatic head and Rafael Grossi, indicating that the discussions are ongoing and intensive.

Baqaei underscored the importance of Grossi's presence at the meetings, noting that any agreement will entail responsibilities for the IAEA, a recognized international body in non-proliferation. He pointed out that in previous agreements, the agency's role was clearly defined.

He reiterated that the key decision-makers are the delegations from both countries, and Iran's delegation has approached the talks with complete seriousness, aiming for a result.

Indirect talks between Iran and the United States resumed on February 6 in Muscat, facilitated by message exchanges through the Omani foreign minister. Both nations have described the talks as positive and have expressed a willingness to continue.
