Tehran: Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has declared that his country respects the American people's right to elect the president of their choice. In a statement made on Saturday evening on the social media platform X, Araghchi emphasized Iran's stance on the recent U.S. presidential elections. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi remarked, "The American people have made their decision. And Iran respects their right to elect the President of their choice." He further elaborated on the importance of mutual respect in international relations, stating, "The path forward is also a choice. It begins with respect. Iran is NOT after nuclear weapons, period. This is a policy based on Islamic teachings and our security calculations. Confidence-building is needed from both sides. It is not a one-way street." Araghchi also recalled a past incident, mentioning the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, shortly after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's inaugu ration. He pointed out, "Remember the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran right after our President's inauguration? Everyone knows who did it and why," implicating Israel in the assassination. The Foreign Minister criticized what he described as fabricated scenarios following elections, suggesting that narratives are created to serve specific agendas. He questioned the plausibility of claims regarding an Iranian assassin conspiring online with the FBI, stating, "Now, with another election, a new scenario is fabricated with the same goal: as a killer does not exist in reality, scriptwriters are brought in to manufacture a third-rate comedy. Who can in their right mind believe that a supposed assassin SITS IN IRAN and talks online to the FBI?!" Araghchi's comments came in response to the U.S. Justice Department's announcement of federal charges against an Iranian national. The charges relate to what Washington has described as a second attempt by Tehran to assassinate Donald Trump, who was elected presi dent in the November 5 election in the U.S.
