Accra:Former International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has mocked U.S. President Donald Trump's complaint about not receiving the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, ElBaradei sarcastically suggested on social media that Trump deserved the prize for 'settling' ten wars, including conflicts in Iran and Venezuela during his presidency.
Trump expressed his discontent on Friday with Norway, which hosts the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, condemning its decision as disgraceful and claiming it strained relations with Norway. He argued that the United States should have received the prize, calling the decision an embarrassment.
The Nobel Committee awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, a former South African UN human rights chief and International Criminal Court judge. Pillay was recognized for her involvement in a UN report that accused Israel of genocide in Gaza.
In response to the announcement, the United States imposed sanctions against the ICC and urged allied countries to limit its influence. Trump criticized the award being given to Pillay, describing her as an unknown liberal associated with the United Nations.
