Bandar abbas: A dual French-German national has been acquitted of espionage charges by a court in southern Iran, according to Islamic Republic News Agency. Mojtaba Ghahremani, head of the judiciary in Hormuzgan province, announced that Lennart Christian Jean Pierlot Montrel¨s, who holds both German and French citizenship, was cleared of spying allegations by the Revolutionary Court in Bandar Abbas.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Montrel¨s had been detained during the 12-day Israeli-imposed war in June and subsequently faced espionage charges. Despite the indictment, the Revolutionary Court ruled in favor of acquittal, citing legal principles and doubts surrounding the charges. Ghahremani noted that while the court issued an acquittal, the prosecutor retains the right to appeal the decision under Iranian law.
Ghahremani remarked that the duplicity and broken promises from certain countries’ politicians towards Iran do not imply a disregard for neutrality and the rule of law in fair judicial proceedings.
