Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue and shared relations between the GCC and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to serve mutual interests and contribute to regional and international security and stability. Addressing the 14th extraordinary meeting of the CARICOM Council of Ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Albudaiwi expressed gratitude for Colombia's invitation and highlighted the growing ties between the two blocs. He noted the critical importance of intensifying multilateral efforts to address global challenges, such as nuclear proliferation, ballistic missiles, maritime security, terrorism, and crime. Albudaiwi referred to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the GCC and CARICOM in September 2023, which establishes a partnership framework for 2023-2027. The MoU aims to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, sustainable growth, innovation, connectivity, and economic opportunities. He noted that the volume of goods trade between the GCC and CARICOM countries nearly doubled to $6.5 billion in 2021, reflecting the strength of their economic relations. The GCC chief stated that upcoming technical meetings in October will focus on climate change, sustainable tourism, and connectivity, aligning with the action plan approved by both parties.
