Berlin: The German government has confirmed it approved $294 million (£250.5 million) worth of military equipment and weapons to Israel between January 1, 2024, and June 26, 2025. This revelation comes amid increasing criticism regarding Germany’s ongoing arms exports to the Middle Eastern nation, particularly in light of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
According to TRTworld.com, official figures indicate that the approved export licenses amounted to $189 million (£161.1 million) in 2024 and $33 million (£28 million) in the first quarter of 2025. These figures were disclosed in response to a parliamentary inquiry from the opposition Left Party, which has been vocal in its demand for an immediate cessation of arms exports to Israel. The Left Party’s stance is rooted in the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the severe humanitarian repercussions of the Israeli military offensive.
Since the onset of Israel’s military operations in Gaza in 2023, the region has witnessed significant casualties and widespread suffering. Over 58,000 Palestinians have been reported killed, and more than 100,000 others wounded, with women and children constituting the majority of the victims. The situation has prompted global condemnation and significant legal challenges against Israel.
Currently, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions in Gaza. The humanitarian crisis in the region remains dire, with at least 1.9 million Palestinians displaced and grappling with acute shortages of food, medical supplies, and other essential resources. The ongoing conflict and its repercussions continue to draw international attention and criticism, with Germany’s military exports to Israel remaining a contentious issue within this broader context.
