Germany Faces Economic Strain Amid US Tariff Policies in Trumpian Era.

Tehran: Headlines in Iranian English-language dailies on Nov 20 highlight significant geopolitical and economic developments impacting Europe and the Middle East. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran Daily reported that Germany and the US are on a collision course in the Trumpian era, primarily due to increased defense spending and security pressures. Trump's victory is expected to impose greater economic strain on Germany compared to France. As Europe's economic powerhouse post-Brexit, Germany faces substantial challenges against Trump's tariff policies. The economic impact of these tariffs on Germany is projected to amount to 1% of its GDP, negatively affecting future growth. Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi advised the US to adopt 'maximum rationality' instead of 'maximum pressure' as a new government prepa res to take office in Washington. Speaking at a joint press conference with Syrian counterpart Bassam al-Sabbagh, Araghchi emphasized that Iran had defeated the maximum pressure in previous US policies, advocating for continued resistance. Meanwhile, Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned Zionism as the gravest threat to the dignity and security of Jewish people. Zarif criticized Zionism practiced by the Israeli regime as an expansionist secular movement using Judaism to advance a colonial and racist agenda, branding it as racism, militarism, and apartheid. This statement was part of a rare video message directed at Jewish communities worldwide. Tehran Times reported on the resilient ties between Tehran and Damascus, as Iran's foreign minister expressed a strong will to expand cooperation with Syria. Discussions on strategic relations were held during a meeting in Tehran, highlighting positive exchanges on issues concerning Gaza and Lebanon. In a significant military dev elopment, Hezbollah staged one of its largest attacks on Tel Aviv in response to Israeli aggression on Beirut. This move came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined conditions for a settlement with Hezbollah, which the Lebanese parliament rejected. Iran, China, and Saudi Arabia jointly condemned Israel for its attack on Iranian territory in October. Representatives from the three nations convened for a trilateral meeting in Riyadh, following the restoration of diplomatic ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia under Chinese mediation. Lastly, Kayhan International reported on Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's message to the Lebanese people, pledging Iran's support against Israeli atrocities. Hezbollah continued its offensive, hitting an Israeli military intelligence base near Tel Aviv with missiles, amid ongoing conflicts in southern Lebanon.
