Tehran: Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi has warned against the consequences of any military adventurism in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi responded to a joint statement by France and the United Kingdom concerning the Strait of Hormuz. In a message on X, he emphasized that the Strait should not be used as a platform for military activities by countries outside the region. Gharibabadi reiterated Iran's role as the responsible power and security guarantor of the Strait, cautioning against any military movements in this critical waterway.

He stressed that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is the responsibility of the littoral states. Gharibabadi warned that those instigating crises would be held accountable for the consequences of their actions, marking it as a serious warning.

The UK Prime Minister's Office released a joint statement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron. The statement described the Strait of Hormuz as a crucial artery for the global economy, emphasizing the significance of ensuring the safe passage of ships from all countries. It declared this as a global concern.

The statement further indicated that Oman has agreed to collaborate with the UK and France to secure its territorial waters, ensuring protection against shipping risks. Additionally, London and Paris showed readiness to deploy a 'wider multinational military mission' to uphold freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
