Governor of Iran’s Anzali City Dismissed for Insulting Journalists.

Anzali: Governor General of Iran's northern province of Gilan, Hadi Haqshenas, has taken decisive action by dismissing Mohammad Pourkhosh Saadat, who served as the governor of the port city of Anzali, following an incident involving the use of insulting language towards journalists. Haqshenas announced this decision to reporters, emphasizing the importance of respectful discourse and fair criticism from media members. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, The dismissal came after Pourkhosh Saadat criticized media members last week, accusing them of failing to adequately raise awareness about the deteriorating conditions of Anzali Wetland. Haqshenas, who holds the highest governmental position in Gilan Province, stressed that journalists play a crucial role in highlighting and addressing societal issues. He pointed to the media's effective coverage of the Urmia Lake crisis as a positive example where increased awareness led to national attention on environmental challenges caused by prolonged droughts. Following Pourkhosh Saadat's removal, Babak Shokouhi Rad has been appointed as the caretaker governor of Anzali. In Iran, the process of appointing and dismissing governors falls under the jurisdiction of provincial governor generals, though such decisions must receive approval from the interior minister.
