Hamas Condemns Israeli Suppression of Media in Gaza

Tehran: The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has condemned the Israeli suppression of media personnel working in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing their role in conveying the truth amidst ongoing conflict. The statement was made public on World Press Freedom Day, underscoring the challenges faced by journalists in the region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hamas expressed appreciation for the media's efforts in confronting what it describes as Zionist propaganda. The group asserted that Israeli actions will not succeed in silencing voices or obscuring the Palestinian narrative. The statement highlighted the severe toll on journalists, noting that 212 have been killed and over 177 detained since the Israeli invasion of Gaza on October 7, 2023.

Hamas further revealed that more than 49 journalists are currently imprisoned in Israeli jails. Additionally, numerous journalists from the Gaza Strip are reportedly subjected to enforced disappearance, torture, abuse, starvation, and medical neglect. The Palestinian group has called for the immediate release of these journalists from Israeli detention.
