Tehran: Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has arrived in Iran for critical discussions with the nation's top officials. Grossi's visit, highly anticipated in diplomatic circles, marks a significant engagement in the ongoing dialogue over Iran's nuclear program. Upon his arrival in Tehran on Wednesday night, Grossi was welcomed by Behrouz Kamalvandi, the Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Grossi is scheduled to engage in talks with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and AEOI Chief Mohammad Eslami on Thursday. This visit comes at a crucial juncture as Grossi aims to address outstanding safeguards issues through direct negotiations with Iranian officials. In a statement made prior to his arrival, Grossi emphasized that IAEA inspectors have found no evidence suggesting that Iran is constructing a nuclear bomb, a critical assertion amidst international scrutiny. Two weeks ago, Kazem Gharibabadi, Depu ty Iranian Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, met with Grossi in Vienna. Gharibabadi noted that Grossi's visit to Tehran is a continuation of the cooperative relationship between the Islamic Republic and the IAEA. This visit aligns with the joint statement released on March 4, 2023, by Tehran and the UN nuclear agency, which underscored Iran's commitment to ongoing collaboration with the IAEA.
