Tehran: The president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has appreciated Iran's national football team. 'Remaining unbeaten through a challenging FIFA World Cup group stage is a remarkable feat that proved your exceptional quality and teamwork to the world,' wrote Gianni Infantino in a message posted on his personal social media page on Wednesday.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran finished its campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with three draws and three points in its group, placing third and missing out on qualification for the knockout stage. He added that although the performance was not enough to progress, Iran's 'passion and desire' were clear to everyone.

Infantino also thanked the players for competing 'with such heart,' adding Iran gave fans 'so much to be proud of.'
