Geneva: The Senior Advisor to the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration expressed appreciation for Iran’s efforts in hosting and delivering services to Afghan refugees during a meeting with Iran’s Deputy Minister of Interior and the Head of the Iranian Social Affairs Organization.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 76th annual session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva. Kim Elling, Senior Advisor to the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), highlighted Iran’s efforts in accommodating Afghan nationals. Elling also noted the reduction in aid from donor countries as a significant challenge for the United Nations in progressing with its projects.
Mohammad Bathaei, Deputy Minister of Interior and Head of the Iranian Social Affairs Organization, discussed the current status of ongoing interactions with the IOM concerning the management of foreign nationals residing in Iran. Bathaei emphasized that despite facing unilateral sanctions, Iran has consistently provided services to Afghan refugees over the years.
