Beijing: Iran is set to advocate for the lifting of unilateral sanctions and an expedited process for prisoner exchanges at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) judicial summit. Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, confirmed that these topics, along with the extradition of criminals, are on the agenda for discussion.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi emphasized Iran's commitment to pursuing proposals initially introduced by Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei during the 20th Meeting of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the SCO. The Iranian judiciary delegation's visit to China, which commenced on Monday, is deemed crucial due to the concurrent participation of judicial leaders from all SCO member states.
The summit's primary focus will be to enhance legal cooperation and reinforce counterterrorism measures among member countries, as highlighted by the deputy minister. A significant point of discussion will be the legal actions against unilateral sanctions, a matter affecting several SCO member states, which Iran aims to address vigorously during the event.
Additionally, Iran plans to advocate for more rapid prisoner transfers and the establishment of extradition agreements among SCO members, signaling a strong push for legal reforms and international cooperation.
