Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized that Iran is not interested in wasting time in the ongoing Omani-mediated negotiations with the United States. Over the past few weeks, Iran has demonstrated its commitment to achieving a fair and fact-based agreement.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei stated that Tehran approached the negotiation process seriously and purposefully. He advised caution regarding media reports about Iran-U.S. talks or negotiations with European states, noting that outlets affiliated with the Israeli regime might spread false information intended to distort the negotiation process.
Baqaei also addressed potential discussions with European nations, affirming Iran's readiness to resume talks; however, he mentioned that the time and venue need to be established. On cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.), he reiterated Iran's commitment to constructive collaboration and adherence to its obligations as a member of the organization. He urged the I.A.E.A. director general to remain impartial and not be influenced by external parties.
On Iran's nuclear program, Baqaei highlighted Oman's role as a facilitator, offering suggestions for future talks. He emphasized the necessity of uranium enrichment as part of Iran's peaceful nuclear program, asserting that Iran would not concede on this matter. He dismissed speculations about an interim agreement with the U.S., stating it was not on Tehran's agenda.
Regarding the Iranian nuclear program's peaceful intentions, Baqaei asserted that it has never been aimed at military purposes. He warned that efforts to deny Iran its rights would lead to continued pursuit of nuclear energy for electricity and peaceful applications. He criticized the Israeli regime for alleged war crimes against Palestinians and urged international bodies to document and address these actions.
Baqaei refuted claims of a three-year halt in Iran's uranium enrichment and addressed the idea of a nuclear consortium. While open to regional contributions, he stressed that it would not replace Iran's domestic enrichment program. He also dismissed claims about a U.S. deadline for inspecting Iran's facilities as baseless.
Baqaei announced President Masoud Pezeshkian's upcoming visit to Oman, following an invitation from King Haitham bin Tarik. Discussions will include regional developments and Iran-U.S. talks. He clarified that reports of nuclear talks during this visit are unfounded.
On Iran-Taliban relations, Baqaei confirmed ongoing regular consultations and highlighted a recent visit by the Taliban's foreign minister to Iran for the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2025. He also commented on the arrest of Iranian citizens in Iraq, Britain, and France, expressing concerns over judicial cooperation and urging the release of the detained individuals, particularly the female Iranian national in France.
