Tehran: A member of Iran's Parliament, part of the Planning, Budget, and Audit Committee, has announced a renewed focus on the development of three key islands in the Persian Gulf. The islands, Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Bu Musa, are to be developed without prior restrictions that have been imposed due to ownership claims. Abdolkarim Hashemi, in an interview with Iran Daily, emphasized that such constraints had previously stalled progress, but moving forward, development will proceed without being hindered by these issues. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hashemi highlighted that the avoidance of development was initially intended to prevent exacerbating regional sensitivities. However, Iran now plans to prioritize the islands' development, viewing it as essential for the nation's growth and asserting its territorial rights. This move comes amid ongoing disputes over the islands' ownership, which have historically been a point of contention in the region. Furthermore, the focus on these island s aligns with Iran's broader strategic interests in the Persian Gulf, a vital area for global energy supplies. The announcement underscores Iran's intent to bolster its presence and infrastructure in this strategically significant region. The development plans are part of a larger national initiative to enhance economic and strategic capabilities, ensuring that Iran remains a key player in the geopolitically crucial Persian Gulf.
