Iran Ambassador Mocks Attempt to Compare Trump to Cyrus

Moscow: A ceremony commemorating the 2,550th anniversary of the world’s first human rights charter, known as The Cyrus Cylinder, was held in Moscow, attracting ambassadors and cultural enthusiasts from around the globe. The event, hosted by the Russian State University of Cinematography (VGIK) on Tuesday, featured Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali, who openly mocked comparisons between US President Donald Trump and Cyrus the Great.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Jalali emphasized the profound significance of the ancient Iranian human rights charter, which is celebrated for its embodiment of values such as freedom, tolerance, and human dignity. He contrasted these ancient values with the modern Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in December 1948, pointing out the historical gap between Eastern and Western civilizations concerning the recognition of human rights.

Jalali argued that the concept of freedom, including religious and cultural freedoms, was acknowledged by Iranians long before Western civilizations. He criticized the notion of equating Trump with Cyrus the Great, arguing that it is contradictory to support a leader linked to the deaths of thousands in Gaza while claiming to advocate for human rights.

He further called for respect for both individual and collective rights, highlighting the peaceful coexistence of various religious communities within Iran. The event also included remarks from the Tajik ambassador, who celebrated the historical significance of the Cyrus Cylinder, noting its foundational role in modern legal systems.

The ceremony was enriched with cultural performances and an exhibition showcasing Iranian and Tajik handicrafts and books, underscoring the importance of cultural heritage and international cooperation.
