Iran and Azerbaijan Aim to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev stressed strengthened cooperation between the two neighbors. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has the development of relations and interactions with neighboring and Muslim countries as a principled policy on its agenda, and in this regard, relations with Azerbaijan are of particular importance to us, and we seek to expand relations in all fields between the two countries,” Pezeshkian said during the meeting in Tehran on Tuesday.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mustafayev conveyed warm greetings from President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to his Iranian counterpart, and stated, “Over the past decades, the Republic of Azerbaijan has spared no effort to expand relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Moreover, the important changes that we have witnessed during this short period of your presidency promise a bright future in the relations between the two countries and the situation in our region.”

Mustafayev emphasized the influential role of Iran in maintaining peace and stability in the region, expressing belief that regional problems can only be solved by the countries within the region. He asserted that the involvement of foreign countries would not be beneficial in this context.

During the meeting, Mustafayev provided Pezeshkian with a detailed report on the current state of bilateral relations, particularly in trade and economic sectors. He highlighted ongoing joint projects in rail and road transportation and energy exchange sectors. The Azerbaijani economic delegation visiting Tehran aims to establish a roadmap for further expanding economic and trade relations with Iran, seeking strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Furthermore, Mustafayev extended an invitation from President Aliyev to President Pezeshkian to visit Azerbaijan, signaling a commitment to deepening ties between the nations.
