Tehran: The director general for international cooperation at Iran's Ministry of Health and Cuba's ambassador to Tehran recently convened to discuss strategies for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the health, pharmaceutical, and medical equipment sectors.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during the meeting, Mohammad Hossein Ayati, Iran's representative, expressed gratitude for Cuba's assistance in urgently providing meningitis vaccines to Iran. This gesture underscores the ongoing collaboration between the two nations in addressing critical health needs.

Nicolas Lefebvre, the Cuban ambassador, indicated Cuba's readiness to deepen this cooperation by sending specialists to Iran. These specialists aim to contribute to joint projects and assist in the reconstruction of the Pasteur Institute of Iran, which sustained damage during the recent war. This collaboration highlights Cuba's commitment to supporting Iran's healthcare infrastructure.

The discussions also encompassed potential collaboration in technology transfer and vaccine production. Both parties explored the possibility of producing various vaccines, including those for hepatitis, COVID-19, and pneumococcal diseases. This initiative reflects a mutual interest in advancing healthcare capabilities and ensuring the availability of essential vaccines.
