Tehran: In a significant development concerning maritime security, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, announced that Iran and Oman are nearing the completion of a joint statement regarding safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Baqaei emphasized the progress made in the bilateral talks, which focus on key considerations and agreements reached during the negotiations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei detailed the ongoing discussions between Tehran and Muscat, which aim to ensure safe navigation through this strategic waterway that connects the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. He revealed that both countries have already agreed upon the geographic coordinates for the navigation route in the Strait of Hormuz, and the joint statement is in its final stages, pending no interference from external parties.

The spokesperson highlighted that the talks, ongoing for two months, have involved thorough reviews by Iran's competent authorities of the proposal's technical, legal, security, and environmental aspects. Despite the bilateral progress, Baqaei cautioned that the security situation in the Strait remains precarious due to the US blockade and other hostile actions against Iran.

Baqaei further criticized the United States and the Israeli regime, attributing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to their military aggression against Iran. He warned of the broader regional dangers posed by US actions.

Addressing speculations about potential visits by Iranian officials to Pakistan or Qatar, Baqaei dismissed the reports, clarifying that there are currently no such plans. However, he acknowledged ongoing diplomatic efforts by Pakistan and Qatar to reduce regional tensions, with Iran actively engaging in dialogue with both countries to discuss recent developments.
