Tehran: Iran and other Persian Gulf littoral states are set to hold a significant meeting in Oman to address pressing regional issues, as confirmed by the Foreign Ministry. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei announced that the talks, scheduled for Monday, will involve foreign ministers from Iran, Iraq, and other littoral states of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the meeting aims to tackle key regional matters, notably the recent Tehran-Muscat agreement concerning the management of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The discussions are expected to focus on the outcomes of negotiations between Iran and Oman, particularly about establishing safe shipping lanes in this strategic waterway.

Baqaei emphasized Iran's ongoing commitment to fostering cooperation and trust among regional nations to enhance peace and stability, free from external interference. He described the forthcoming meeting in Muscat as a pivotal step towards achieving these goals. The spokesperson expressed optimism that the dialogue would lead to improved mutual understanding among regional countries and contribute to bolstering shared regional security.

Highlighting the significance of the Iran-Oman agreement on temporary shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, Baqaei reiterated Iran's commitment to maintaining security in these vital waters. However, he cautioned that security cannot be fully assured as long as aggressive actions and illegal interventions by the United States, such as maritime blockades and economic warfare, continue to pose challenges.
