Tehran: Iran has called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for what it describes as an attack contrary to international norms. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized that the international community is expected to explicitly condemn Israeli aggression and hold the aggressors accountable.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei highlighted that the Israeli actions contradict all international standards, including the U.N. Charter and human rights principles. He pointed to Chapter 7, urging U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the U.N. Security Council to take preventive measures against such aggression and threats to peace.
Baqaei further argued that under international regulations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Board of Governors Resolution 533, any threat against a nation’s peaceful nuclear facilities represents a threat to international peace and security. Iran expects the U.N., I.A.E.A., and U.N.S.C. to take decisive action against the aggressor.
He noted the positions of numerous countries condemning the Israeli regime, warning of potential repercussions on regional and international peace and stability. Baqaei urged nations to condemn the Israeli actions at the U.N.S.C. and the U.N. General Assembly to ensure accountability.
Regarding Iran’s possible response, Baqaei stated that the Islamic Republic reserves the right to defend its national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as outlined in Article 51 of the U.N. Charter.
