Accra:Iran's High Council for Human Rights has criticized the economic sanctions and restrictions that hinder access to medicines and medical treatment for its population. The council has urged the international community to intervene immediately to protect Iranian patients and vulnerable groups from the adverse effects of these measures.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the council expressed deep concern over the humanitarian consequences of ongoing financial and banking restrictions, which have been exacerbated by recent conflicts and developments. These sanctions have disrupted the supply chain for medicines, increased treatment costs, and diminished access to life-saving medications, raising serious human rights concerns.
The statement highlighted that vulnerable groups including patients with cancer, hemophilia, multiple sclerosis, and rare diseases are at heightened risk due to these disruptions. The council emphasized the need for international bodies such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization to take decisive action to alleviate these obstacles and ensure secure channels for humanitarian transactions.
The Iranian council stressed the importance of maintaining access to medical necessities, independent of political disputes, and underscored that the right to health and life are fundamental human rights that should be upheld without discrimination.
