Accra:The Iranian Foreign Ministry has expressed strong disapproval of Colombia's decision to establish an embassy in occupied al-Quds, calling it a violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the ministry released a statement on Thursday condemning the Colombian government's move. The statement argues that al-Quds is an integral part of Palestinian territory and emphasizes that all nations are required by international law to avoid actions that recognize the Israeli regime's occupation.
The statement further criticized Colombia's current authorities for aligning with what it described as an occupying and genocidal regime. It stated that this alignment contradicts Colombia and Latin America's historical struggles for independence and justice. The Iranian ministry warned that Colombia's action contradicts the country's legal obligations to respect the right of peoples to self-determination and essentially supports occupation, thereby violating the Palestinian people's rights. The ministry asserted that the Colombian government must take responsibility for the consequences of its decision, which Iran views as immoral and contrary to international law.
