Iran Criticizes International Fact-Finding Mission’s Allegations

Tehran: Iran has reacted to the baseless claims by the chairperson of the so-called International Independent Fact-Finding Mission, stating that the continuation of the activities of this Mission in such a manner will only further weaken and undermine the credibility of international human rights institutions and mechanisms, particularly the Human Rights Council.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the response came after the Chairperson of the so-called International Independent Fact-Finding Mission made claims during the session of the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. The High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a statement following these allegations, criticizing the Mission’s approach.

The statement emphasized that the Fact-Finding Mission was established by certain Western countries for political purposes and has been extended through lobbying and pressure, despite lacking a mandate for continued activities after its final report. Iran claims the Mission was formed with a hostile approach aimed at destabilizing the country, despite Iran’s efforts to address unrest domestically.

Iran accused the Mission of systematically engineering accusations to promote a predetermined conclusion dictated by its sponsors. The Mission’s hostile stance towards Iranian society, the statement argued, contradicts its mandate of promoting human rights, instead fostering conditions that could lead to violations.

The High Council for Human Rights condemned the Chairperson’s accusations, asserting they undermine the United Nations’ credibility. The statement also criticized the Mission for disseminating false information and aligning with separatist entities, which Iran claims affects its stability and peace.

Furthermore, Iran expressed disappointment over the Mission’s lack of action to protect Iranian citizens from unilateral sanctions and its failure to condemn military aggression against Iran by the Zionist regime and the U.S. The statement highlighted the Mission’s alleged endorsement of collaborators with these aggressors, questioning its impartiality.

The statement concluded by warning that the Mission’s continued activities as they currently stand will undermine international human rights institutions and mechanisms, particularly the Human Rights Council.
