Baku:Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has expressed strong criticism of French President Emmanuel Macron's approach to handling unrest in France. Baqaei accused Macron of employing a double standard in his treatment of protests in Iran compared to those in France.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei addressed Macron directly in a post on X, reminding him of his earlier stance in January. At that time, Macron had advocated for 'peaceful assembly without fear of punishment' concerning rioters targeting Iranian law enforcement centers and public institutions, allegedly at the instigation of foreign malign actors.
Baqaei highlighted the contrast in Macron's response to domestic unrest, noting that the French president has swiftly declared that destruction and attacks on state institutions in France would not be tolerated and that perpetrators would be punished quickly.
Furthermore, Baqaei recalled that before the US-Israeli aggression against Iran, Macron had communicated to the US president about the potential for collaboration on Iran. However, Baqaei described this as aligning with a campaign of aggression that affected the region and the world.
In his message, Baqaei suggested that the current crises affecting France and the echoes of 'no kings' in America serve as a reminder that history can retaliate against those who engage in sinister alliances. He concluded with a reference to Jean de La Fontaine, suggesting that a cleverly crafted trick might backfire on its creator, and betrayal often returns to its originator.
