Iran Criticizes New U.S. Sanctions as Hindrance to Nuclear Negotiations

Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has asserted that the United States' imposition of new sanctions on Iran undermines its professed willingness to engage in nuclear negotiations with the Islamic Republic. Baqaei emphasized that these sanctions, targeting Iran's economic and trade sectors, reflect a bullying and illegal stance, questioning the U.S.'s goodwill and seriousness in diplomatic discussions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei condemned the unilateral sanctions as arbitrary and illegal, arguing that they contradict the fundamental principles of international law. He urged accountability for what he termed as gross human rights violations by the U.S. administration. Baqaei further criticized the use of embargos as a means of political pressure on developing countries, highlighting that such measures contravene the United Nations Charter and international law, and undermine the rule of law, free trade principles, and the right to development.

The sanctions in question were announced on Tuesday by the United States Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control, targeting Iranian national and liquified petroleum gas entrepreneur Asadollah Emamjomeh and his corporate network.
