Tehran: The Iranian Red Crescent Society of Khuzestan Province, located in southwest Iran, has dispatched 15 relief teams to Iraq to provide emergency coverage during the funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Khuzestan Red Crescent Director General Hassan Aboudi Mazraei stated that the deployment includes 55 operational personnel who have commenced their mission in the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. The teams are set to remain in Iraq until the conclusion of the ceremonies, offering emergency and rescue services to participants as long as needed.

Mazraei highlighted that the 15 teams, equipped with full rescue gear, comprise some of the province's most experienced rescue workers. These teams are tasked with providing vital emergency assistance to mourners throughout the events, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was tragically assassinated in an airstrike on his office and residence in Tehran on February 28, marking the onset of the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran. The strike also claimed the lives of several of his family members, including his 14-month-old granddaughter.

A week-long memorial service commenced in Tehran on Friday, July 3, where senior officials from numerous countries gathered to pay their respects to the martyred Leader and his family. The memorial included a farewell ceremony at Tehran's Grand Mosalla over the weekend, followed by a funeral procession in the capital city on Monday.

The funeral procession was also scheduled to take place on Tuesday in the holy city of Qom, south of Tehran. This will be succeeded by memorial ceremonies in Iraq's sacred cities of Najaf and Karbala the following day.

The week-long observance will culminate on Thursday, July 9, when the martyred Leader will be laid to rest at Imam Reza's shrine in the city of Mashhad, located in northeastern Iran.
