Iran Dominates Wrestling at Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics

Tokyo: The Iranian freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling teams have emerged victorious, claiming the championship titles at the 25th Summer Deaflympics 2025 held in Tokyo, Japan.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran’s freestyle wrestling team achieved significant success, securing the championship title with a total of five medals. The team won one gold, three silver, and one bronze medal. Mohammad Siyahoushi clinched the gold medal in the 57 kg weight category, while silver medals were awarded to Keivan Rostamabadi (65 kg), Abolfazl Zohrevand (74 kg), and Mohammad Ghamarpour (125 kg). Additionally, Erfan Sattari earned a bronze medal in the 97 kg category.

In the Greco-Roman wrestling category, Iranian athletes also excelled, obtaining two gold medals, one silver, and three bronze medals. Gold medals were won by Meisam Dezfouli (87 kg) and Abouzar Rabizadeh (97 kg). Mehdi Bakhshi secured a silver medal in the 97 kg weight category, while bronze medals were awarded to Abolfazl Abolvafaei (60 kg), Mohammad Zeratpisheh (77 kg), and Mohammadreza Shabani (130 kg).

As a result of these achievements, Iran’s Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling teams celebrated their team championship titles with a medal count of six and five, respectively. Over 3,000 athletes from more than 70 countries are competing for medals in 21 sports at this prestigious event.

The 25th edition of the Deaflympics is being held in Tokyo, Japan, from November 15 to 26, 2025. This event marks 101 years since the inaugural Summer Deaflympics, which took place in Paris in 1924. In the previous edition held in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, Ukraine topped the medal table, followed by the USA and the Republic of Korea.
