Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that Iran will not retreat from its principles during talks with the United States, while emphasizing that Tehran does not seek tensions.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian made these remarks during a meeting with Independent members of Parliament, highlighting that the indirect talks with the U.S. are being conducted in full coordination with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian negotiation team, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, participated in a fourth round of discussions with a U.S. delegation in Muscat on Sunday. The American team was headed by the President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Mediated by Oman, the discussions have been characterized by both sides as productive and progressing well. The primary focus of the talks is Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions, aiming to reach a potential agreement to replace the 2015 landmark deal. This deal was unilaterally abandoned by the U.S. during Trump’s initial term in office.
President Pezeshkian also noted that his administration will not tie the livelihood and well-being of the Iranian people to the negotiations with the U.S.
