Iran FM Urges Action Against IAEA’s Political Manipulation by European Powers.

Tehran: Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has made a compelling call to prevent the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from becoming a platform for advancing the political interests of certain Western countries and their allies. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi's appeal was made during telephone conversations on Wednesday night with the foreign ministers of several IAEA Board of Governors member countries, including Brazil, South Africa, Bangladesh, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Pakistan, and France. He emphasized the importance of these countries opposing another anti-Iran initiative by three European countries, reminding them of the crucial role the Board of Governors plays in maintaining the agency's credibility, professional integrity, and independence. The Iranian diplomat elaborated on his country's constructive approach towards the IAEA, warning that actions by some Western member countries to propose a resolution against the Islamic Republic could di srupt the agency's technical and professional responsibilities. He highlighted that the inappropriate move by the three European countries-the UK, France, and Germany, collectively known as the E3 or European Troika-aims to issue a fourth anti-Iran resolution since 2020, coinciding with the UN nuclear watchdog's board meetings that commenced on Wednesday. Araghchi condemned the unproductive and unjustified actions of the three European nations towards Iran's peaceful nuclear program, cautioning that their new initiative could undermine the understandings reached between Iran and the IAEA. He also engaged in a discussion with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, stating that Tehran would respond to the unconstructive measures at the Board of Governors session. The conversation revolved around the interactions between Iran and the IAEA following Grossi's visit to Tehran, during which Iran demonstrated goodwill to enhance cooperation with the agency. Both Iran and the IAEA have expressed their commitment to co ntinue interactions to resolve differences, address issues, and avoid unconstructive and confrontational approaches.
