Manama: The Iranian armed forces announced a series of missile and drone strikes on US military installations in Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait early Tuesday. This action was reportedly in retaliation to recent US attacks on southern Iran.
According to Nam News Network, In a statement disseminated through Sepah News, the official outlet of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), it was reported that the United States had executed overnight airstrikes targeting coastal facilities and military sites in southern Iran. These actions came after what the IRGC referred to as Washington's "defeat" on Monday night in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC further accused the US military of attempting to escort several vessels through an "illegal" route in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement noted that two supertankers allegedly turned off their navigation systems, ignored multiple Iranian warnings, and entered a mined route, leading to their being struck.
IRGC forces reportedly targeted the US military's Juffair base and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. The strikes were aimed at weapons depots, fuel storage facilities, communications and radar systems, troop accommodations, and a command center for unmanned surface vessels.
In Jordan, ballistic missiles were said to have struck US positions at an airbase used for launching attacks against Iran. The IRGC emphasized that Iran harbors no hostility towards Jordan or its people.
Separately, Iran's army claimed responsibility for targeting a "hostile" US vessel with cruise missiles and launching drone strikes on US military facilities in Kuwait. The attacks reportedly damaged communications systems, fuel depots, Patriot air defense systems, air traffic control facilities, and an ammunition depot, in response to the US's continued aggression.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in a post on X that its forces "completed its latest wave of strikes against Iran at 10.15 pm ET" on Monday. The five-hour operation targeted military facilities in several Iranian locations, aiming to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping.
The escalation follows Iran's tightening of restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz since February 28, which barred vessels linked to Israel and the US after joint strikes on Iranian territory.
Despite a peace memorandum signed on June 18, which anticipated negotiations within 60 days, tensions have persisted. US media reported that President Donald Trump formally notified Congress about the resumption of military operations against Iran.
