Beirut: Parliament speakers of Iran and Lebanon have stressed that the United States and other international actors bear responsibility for ensuring Israel halts its military operations in Lebanon and implements commitments arising from a recent Tehran-Washington memorandum of understanding.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and his Lebanese counterpart, Nabih Berri, discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the wider region during a telephone call on Tuesday, as well as political and military aspects of the memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United States.

A significant part of the discussions focused on provisions related to ending Israel's war against Lebanon under the recent agreement, the report said. Berri and Ghalibaf said the United States, the guarantors of the memorandum, and the international community should fulfill their responsibilities in implementing the agreement's provisions.

The two officials also stressed the need to compel Israel to end the war against Lebanon, stop the destruction of villages, respect Lebanon's sovereignty, and withdraw immediately from occupied territories. The talks came a day after Iran's Supreme National Security Council stated that, under agreements reached between Tehran and Washington, military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, had ended immediately and permanently from Sunday night, and that the maritime blockade against Iran would be lifted in full with immediate effect.
