Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran did not start the recent conflict but was compelled to defend itself against aggression initiated by the United States and the Israeli regime under false premises. In an interview with India Today, Pezeshkian discussed various critical issues, including Iran's resilience six months into the US-Israeli war, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and regional dynamics influenced by Washington and Tel Aviv.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian highlighted the American-Israeli attacks, including the martyring of Iranian leaders, killing of civilians, and destruction of infrastructure, as violations of international laws. He noted that Iran's resistance surprised its adversaries, uniting the nation against the US-Israeli aggression and crimes.

Pezeshkian criticized the US and Israeli propaganda, asserting that the aggression was launched under false pretexts. He emphasized Iran's commitment to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and questioned the evidence the US found to justify its actions against Iran. He also condemned the global silence on the crimes against Iran, highlighting the Israeli regime's possession of nuclear warheads despite not being an NPT member.

The president deplored the oppressive behavior of the US and Israel, warning that the world could become a place where violence and destruction go unchallenged. He mentioned the challenges in negotiating a ceasefire with the US, with attacks occurring even during talks, and criticized the Trump administration's rejection of a framework of understanding.

Pezeshkian enumerated recent US failures, including attempts to subjugate Iran and block essential goods. He rebuked US claims of supporting human rights, citing the impact of sanctions on Iranian access to medicine and food. He also criticized the killing of innocents in regions like Gaza and Syria.

On Iran-India relations, Pezeshkian expressed hope for strengthened ties to counter global totalitarianism. He discussed Iran's strategic position as a transportation hub and mentioned talks with Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on enhancing trade and investment.

Pezeshkian described Iran's relations with neighboring countries as friendly, identifying US military presence as a primary issue. He asserted Iran's defensive stance against US and Israeli aggression.

He concluded by highlighting BRICS' role in challenging US hegemony, with member countries committed to independent transactions and cooperation. He emphasized the importance of mutual support to stand against unilateralism.
