Iran Praised as Model for Refugee Hosting by UNHCR

Tehran: Raouf Mazou, the Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees at the United Nations, has expressed that Iran should be recognized globally as a prime example for accommodating refugees. Unlike many nations where refugees reside in camps, in Iran, they live integrated lives among local citizens, Mazou stated during a meeting with Gholamhossein Mozaffari, the governor general of Khorasan Razavi province.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran's longstanding tradition of providing refuge to those fleeing conflict and persecution warrants its recognition as a global model for hosting migrants and refugees. This acknowledgment underscores Iran's commitment to supporting and sheltering a substantial number of displaced individuals over the years.

Iran's approach to refugee support includes inclusive policies that provide protection, assistance, education, and healthcare. These efforts not only inspire the global community but also have a positive impact on the lives of refugees. The Islamic Republic is currently home to one of the largest and most longstanding refugee populations worldwide, with Afghan refugees constituting the majority.
